Some People Are Getting Rewarded For Bleeding – “Period”. Guess Who, How & Why

“Period”: The state of endless headaches, body ache, nausea, head rushes, awkward postures, laziness, cramps, and a fake smile on your face to shield the inhibition & discomfort a woman experiences recurrently every month. Every woman who ‘has’ & ‘is’ going through her period realizes that it is not about dragon farts & staged drama.

If you ever thought that sharing heart-rending videos & posts on social media, campaigns & long processions in the busy streets of your city, will turn out to be instrumental to people understanding ‘THE PERIOD-PAIN’, you probably have unrealistic expectations. Some men pretend to be ignorant while others turn hostile to the merciless pain. It is an awkward situation when you have to request a day off and explain your discomfort to your male boss, isn’t it?

However, some sympathetic men of the male-chauvinistic society have started accepting the difficulties of menstruation. Elating all the female employees, Culture Machine & GoZoop are two Indian organizations who have grabbed eyeballs by granting a paid leave on the first day of the period to all their female employees.

They decision was announced while launching a video recording the reaction of all their female employees who were euphoric with their decision. This is gaining momentum nation-wide & we are positive to see many more organizations getting more liberal with their leave policies, accepting the difficulty every woman goes through during those few days every month.

Infact, Culture Machine has turned heads by supporting employees in their educational needs by sharing educational expenses, and a force shut down on New Year’s and Valentine’s Day – are you like kidding me? Do you have a vacancy? Any role? Any pay scale? Any part of Mumbai?

Hear the team speak – “We wanted to make sure that our colleagues feel appreciated, and also in a society like in India, where the ground reality of women empowerment is still a talk, we wanted to walk the talk,” said Prasad, who’s also chief technology officer of Culture Machine.

We also hear that India’s labor minister, has decided to extend a “humble gift” of six months paid maternity leave to all the women employees. Well, if that’s becoming a mandate, we may see a change in the hiring policies processes & gender preferences. We hope & are positive, that “THIS CHANGE IS FOR GOOD”. We love it. And ever since we read it first on IndiaTimes, we couldn’t curtail our excitement to share this cool thing with you.

      Hi Kavita, thank you so much. It is a sensitive topic. Although there is some awkwardness in letting your boss know that you need to take a day off, but, people are getting open about this and things are bound to change, for the better.

    I loved reading it but, I do not every wish to take a day break on Periods. I think Periods make me more stong.

    Great initiative may be for some but I wont prefer to take an off for bleeding when we believe its a natural phenomenon. It is just like asking your PT teacher to skip the PT class because of periods. Everyone has different views, so do I 🙂

      Hi Anubhuti, appreciate your view. Taking off is not a mandatory. But, there is an option for all women to take an off if they have severe cramps.

    Are you really serious? Are there actually companies which grant paid leaves for this reason? What must be the reaction of men? Jealous of women or wishing to get something like this! ☺

      True Vidhi, both the companies have made it official. The women in these organizations are elated & zapped – since it’s obviously the first.

    This is highly debatable topic. But I guess it’s a great move for women who choose to stay at home in cases of excessive pain and discomfort due to periods. Good move.

      Aesha, I think, some women are shy about disclosing this ‘period’ to their bosses. Otherwise, it is always a good feeling to take a break atleast on your first day.

    It’s nice to read about this initiative. But slowly women are getting stronger than ever, I suppose. So this not really needed. You can use that day for being more productive in exploring who you are.

      True, there are many organizations I kknow who emphasize on women’s safety, education or maternity policies. This is taking one step ahead & being pro-active in ensuring that both women are happy & satisfied at their workplace.
