So, Are You Ready For Nature’s Task Of “Parenting”?

Parenting is the most auspicious gift given to human nature. So, Are You Ready For Nature’s Task Of “Parenting”? Many of us want to avail this nature’s bond but some of us don’t. Some women weave wishful dreams to conceive, happily willing to go through the struggles & sacrifices to feel the motherly terrain. Societal & family pressure to plan a family can trigger anger, pain and resentment, especially in those couples who are long-married & hoping to conceive.

Are You Ready For Nature's Task - Parenting

It is not uncommon to see couples delaying & refraining from planning a family. Are they agitated & scared to be in the child-bearing bound? Lack of experience, fear of the unknown & shouldering responsibilities, financial expenses, loss of independence are some of the common factors influencing the thought of ‘I’m not ready for parenting.’ Parenting skills from nurturing, extra vigilance to inculcating values, the ability to recognize the needs of her/his infant, to recognize social threats or to promote mother-infant bonding comes naturally. During pregnancy, the process of social cognition is explained by the “theory of mind” to help us understand how the brain enhances maternal responses by assessing a woman’s emotional attachment, pleasure and hostility towards her baby. Interpretation that changes in the brain enhance woman’s maternal responses is “provocative”.

It is important that both the father & the mother are happy to embrace the most auspicious and nature gifted “parenting”. Motherhood is emotionally weight-lifting and a husband should be acquiescent. Emulating the life between marriage and motherhood, to a great extent, requires support of the spouse to make parenting stress-free & hassle free. All of this makes up what it means to be Ready For Parenting.

Are You Ready For Nature's Task of Parenting

Is a woman’s only purpose is to have children? Of course not. Women permeate the thought of motherhood knowing freedom and experiences won’t be the same as before. Invariably everyone knows when is the right time to plan a family. Parenthood is not easy; you have to give up things you wish you didn’t have to. It’s a pointless argument. Being a parent, you have to be conscious that everything you have been executing in adult life—independence, freedom, self-sufficiency, self-worth-was a form of preparation for the journey ahead. The next generation of women have radical ideas of unmitigated power. A woman can multi-task and her value is inherent. These ideas lead to feel that you can be the strongest, sexiest, most beautiful and most productive person if you have the perseverance & confidence. The value of a woman is exists since the day she is born. The world tries to rob you of, along with the billions of other woman who are told daily that the path to success and happiness is through a number on scale, or a reflection in a mirror. But as far as I am concerned, the world will stop trying, because it doesn’t have a chance in motherhood to steal you.

After your motherhood, self-preservation gains paramount importance. If you are in your early-30’s the visible signs of ageing begin. For bringing a life to the world, a mother needs energy, stamina & great health to ensure that the baby is well taken-care of. There’s nothing like having an infant who influences you to live by-the-moment. Do you want to know a phenomenal form of mediation?  Lie down beside your five month old and just watch baby play, happily comforted by his mother’s presence, and exceptionally content in every single moment. Submerge yourself in its purity of parenting, the world of endless possibilities & unconditional love begins at that moment.

Detailed Review On MamaEarth Babycare Products

The word “MamaEarth” depicts – “Mother + Nature”. Can it get any better? The love & care of a Mother and the purity & gentleness of Nature. MamaEarth combines the expertise of Organic Science & the goodness of Ayurveda to ensure that your baby’s soft, supple & sensitive is not harmed using harmful chemicals and toxins. Rashes, dry skin & spotting are common problems that can be completely eliminated using these products. They are Asia’s only clinically tested MadeSafe products that are available in India. Go ahead & read our review on MamaEarth Babycare Products.

MamaEarth Babycare Products

Personally, I refrain from using lotions, shampoos & body wash more than 2-3 times a week. Simply because I know most products available in the store contain chemicals. I use Oats + Milk, Curd + Gram Flour to massage my little one & give her a bath. But, MamaEarth is the answer to every mother’s concern who wants to use nothing but the best for her little one. When I was introduced to MamaEarth, I was delighted because I saw a phenomenal difference in the quality of the products. It came in a classy pouch & each of the product has a cute little animal like an elephant, tiger, panda or a fish. My 1.5year old daughter absolutely loves them. Indeed making teaching & bathing fun.

What you will read further is my personal experience with each of the products:

Body Lotion

  1. The texture was light, hence easy to spread & absorb.
  2. The fragrance was mild.
  3. It does not contain parabens, petroleum, dyes, sulphates or mineral oil – which means no toxins & chemicals.

Body Wash

  1. Gentle on skin, no tear formula making it ultra awesome.
  2. The lather is just perfect: Not too frothy or dense.
  3. The aroma does not go overboard – Subtle & pleasant.

Shampoo

  1. My toddler did not sob while giving her a head shower. In 4/5 cases she does. This can’t be a mere coincidence because we have used it thrice & it does not overflow & get into her face & eyes.
  2. Mild foam means gentleness personified.

Massage Oil

  1. Massaging the baby with oil is an age-old practice. The goodness of Almond oil & Jojoba Oil ensures great skin & strengthening of bones. Mission accomplished!
  2. Lighter than most oils I have used. The scent is not over powering.

Diaper Rash Cream

  1. I feel in love with the packaging of the product even before I could open & use it. Every product comes with a laminated covering to prevent leakage.
  2. I have not used the diaper rash cream because thankfully, my chid does not have rashes. I prefer wearing diapers only when I am travelling or when she needs to sleep through the night.

Insect Repellent

  1. This is one product that I have never used on my child. The apprehension was because I had heard alot about how insect-repellents can cause skin-allergies & can be cancerous.
  2. But, MADE-SAFE, CHEMICAL-FREE, TOXIN-FREE, DEET-FREE insect repellent was a first to me. MamaEarth is probably the answer to the worries of the young mothers in the perennial mosquito-stricken city.
  3. The smell is not over-whelming. Dab a pinch of the lotion on the hands & neck and your baby is all set for a peaceful night.
MamaEarthReview

To summarize, priced at Rs.299, you are paying a premium for all the products. It costs about twice of what most brands charge. But why the price difference? It is simply because the Detailed Review On MamaEarth Babycare Products are CHEMICALS-FREE & TOXINS FREE. There are many products that claim to be herbal. But the FACT is that some products may contain few ingredients that are herbal, but rest of the ingredients comprises of various chemicals. Perhaps, that’s why the difference in price. Common, what are you trying to compare here? An IPhone with a Xolo? So, think again before you buy something for your most precious little one.

A child’s brain is malleable. So be a Brainsmith

Intelligence is a function of environment, not heredity. Research has proved that a child’s brain grows to about 90 percent of its adult size, by the age of five. The first 6 years in a child’s life are most crucial for brain growth and development and will determine how the next 80 years will be! So, many parents lay a lot of emphasis on how to stimulate your child’s mind, to ensure their child is always a step ahead of others & builds a strong foundation for learning. A child’s brain is malleable. So be a Brainsmith.

A child’s mind is very receptive. The malleable mind absorbs any information that it is exposed to. It does not, rather cannot filter any information. So, we as parents should try to ignite the young mind & inculcate the fire of learning novel things. Your child can learn things thrice as fast in the formative years. You can introduce a new language, skill, sport or an activity that involves cognitive, intellectual, sensory & physical abilities.

Brainsmith Review

How can you accelerate brain growth & development?

These early developmental years is a golden opportunity to help you child reach his/her fullest potential. We often hear people say that children learn much faster from seeing & listening than being taught or lectured. Visual, Sensory or Auditory stimuli have tremendous energy, frequency & impact on the holistic progress of the intellect of the child.

Knowledge has no boundaries. It is never too early to teach & learn. The earlier, the better. There are several interactive games & toys available that make learning & teaching interesting & exciting. To optimize & maximize the learning curve, it is important WHAT, HOW & HOW MUCH INFORMATION is your child exposed to. Age-appropriate knowledge channelized efficiently can transform your child into an encyclopedic marvel.

Being a mother of an 18-month old child, I’m always looking out for interesting things that I can introduce to my daughter. That’s when I bumped into Brainsmith Quantum Cards. My daughter loves animals and birds. She has a keen learning for the sounds produced by every animal. And that’s why I chose Sea Creatures & Mammals. She knows the common domestic pets like dogs, cats, pigeons, crows, cows, horses or elephants. These were common & were easily available in any toddler’s first books. I wanted something more, something beyond the usual. You can choose from various card sets like Solar System, World Currencies, National Flags, Air Vehicles and many more.

These Quantum Cards are big hand-painted illustrations against a plain background so as to focus only on the image. Behind each card is well-researched encyclopedic information that shoots simple fascinating facts that even we as adults may not know.

For instance, did you know?

  • That a Giant Octopus can live upto 4 years
  • It is considered as the most intelligent invertebrate
  • Usually, males are darker than females
  • They can grow upto 5 metres in length & can weigh upto 50kgs
  • While reproduction, they lay around 20,000 – 1,00,000 eggs over several days.

Brainsmith review_ConfusedParent

My personal experience:

My daughter absolutely loved them. Most things we buy for children are small & handy, as they are easy to hold. But, somethings are meant to be sizable to create the right impact. She obviously is too young to teach the information behind each card. However, it has been a week and she now knows the Giant Panda, Blue Whale, Star Fish & Kangaroo.

To summarize, this is a quick review on Brainsmith Quantum Cards –

Concept: 8.5 / 10. Great concept. I personally do not encourage learning from the IPad/Tv/Internet. The traditional interactive methodology of teaching with books, paper, pictures taught on a one-on-one basis has tremendous 7 long-lasting impression on the child’s mind.

Assortment: 9.5 / 10. Brainsmith has a great mix of flash cards ranging from Monuments, Dinosaurs, Musical Instruments to Inventors. Unique, out-of-the-box card sets that suit children of all ages. History, Science or Nature – You have it all.

Quality: 8 / 10. The images are hand-painted & digitally enhanced to remain true to the original painting. It is not hardboard. It is good quality thick laminated paper, 28cm * 28cm. So your child can fold it or twist it. Hopefully not tear it 🙂

Cost: 7 / 10. In my opinion, it is slightly over-priced for the offering. Rs.740 for a set of 12 cards may not be pocket-friendly for all families.

Although, priced at a premium, Brainsmith Quantum Cards is a sure winner with young mothers who want to inculcate the habit & yearning to learn through tangible sources. If your child can grasp & retain better by seeing, feeling & hearing then there obviously there is no holding back. Every 18-month old baby may know what a HORSE is. But most toddlers may not know what a SEA-HORSE is. If my child does, I am elated, hurrah! Money can’t bring wisdom, satisfaction & happiness. But these can.

How To Deal With The Problems Faced By Teenagers?

Teenagers face real problems on a daily basis during the most awkward growth stages of their lives; between 13 and 19-years of age. Teens feel overwhelmed when faced with unprecedented stresses concerning school, college, choosing the right career or dealing with relationships with the opposite sex when they have a strong adrenaline rush. How To Deal With The Problems Faced By Teenagers?

The issues that teenagers face today vary depending on the various factors including family, environment, value system, educational institution, social standing, socio-economic status and so much more. But these issues can be dealt with easily if parents can understand the symptoms of their problems. Parents need to approach their children, who have been suffering from one or more teenage problems, carefully as a friend for the children to open-up 7 feel comfortable discussing their problems. Many teens feel misunderstood. It is vital that their feelings and thoughts are validated and that the validation comes from their parents.

Some of the most common problems that teenagers face today include:

Self-Esteem and Body Image

This is one of the major problems faced by teenagers. Teens undergo numerous body changes including physical, mental, hormonal & psychological. It is important that they overcome them with appropriate guidance & support of their family & friends to some extent. Some teenagers feel too conscious about their height, weight, complexion & personality. The problem with this feeling is that it affects their self-image. As a teenage boy or girl’s body changes, so does the self. When they do not like something in themselves, they have self-esteem and body image problems. They also perceive others, particularly schoolmates, to view them as they view themselves.

Problems Faced By Teenagers And How To Deal With Them

What am I supposed to do as a parent?

In my experience, kids develop self-esteem by doing things that are difficult or challenging for them. To give you an example, when your child was young and learned to walk, you were probably proud of them and praised them for it. But now that they’re older, it’s no longer something you probably applaud them for. The point is, you want to compliment your child on things that are difficult for them to do. When your child solves a problem that’s challenging and relevant to them now, it builds self-esteem.

If you want to challenge a child who’s having behavioural issues and is low on self-esteem, you have to step into their shoes & wear their thinking-hat to justify inappropriate behaviour. Kids need parents to be consistent and solid – to be their rock and follow-through with expectations. Kids feel safer when parents are clear and matter of fact, this objective lens can help you put your child’s negative emotions into perspective.

Bullying

Bullying is one of the severe, common and infact universal problems faced by teenagers. Bullying causes fear in the minds of children as a result of which they refuse to go to school or college every day. The teenage children may be subject to heavy bullying as they may not understand how extreme it can get & how to tackle it. Any form of bullying is relentless, causing them to live in a state of constant fear. It can be very cruel when it comes to physically attacking the victims. Some targets maybe attacked physically while others are victims of repeated surge of verbal insults, affecting the psychology & self-confidence.

Bullying

What am I supposed to do as a parent?

If you know or suspect that your kid is being bullied, but the school or college hasn’t communicated the situation, you should contact your child’s teacher immediately. Knowing your own child is being victimized can evoke strong feelings of anger & frustration. But you would get much more cooperation from school personnel if you stick to the facts without becoming overly emotional. While you may want assurance that everyone involved is punished severely, your prime focus should be to put a definite end to the bullying!

Depression

Depression is one of the worst problems that may arise from poor self-esteem, love-break-up relationships, sexual involvement, physical abuse or body image problems. As a parents you should talk to the teen, listen, comfort him or her, and accept your child for who he/she is. These symptoms in teenagers may be exhibited in various ways. Changes in sleep patterns, irritation or arrogance, eating habits, declined interest in normal and healthy activities, sudden display of anger or indifferent attitude, dropping grades in school and college & preferred isolation are all signs of depression. Immediate parent intervention is crucial for such problems faced by teenagers. When they exhibit one or more of these symptoms, swoop in to comfort your child. Parents should validate their feelings by listening to them without interrupting the conversation.

Problems Faced By Teenagers And How To Deal With Them-depression

What am I supposed to do as a parent?

One of the most critical things you can do is to work on strengthening your relationship. Try to build empathy and trust by putting yourself in his shoes. You might be frustrated that he seems irritable & has lost interest in most things including conversing with family or friends. But if something has hurt or disappointed him deep down in his heart, it’s understandable that he might avoid things he used to enjoy and prefer to stay isolated in his room. Be compassionate, gentle and not emotional & judgemental. Give him the benefit of doubt & convey that and you’re trying to understand his situation & not fix him. Teenagers in these circumstances do not like to be fixed.

Drugs and Alcohol

Girls & boys both, especially those who take to drinking early in life, put themselves at risks for many problems that can have a long-bearing effect on the teens. It is an imperative that parents, educational institutions & media educate the young children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, but peer pressure, wanna-be-cool, relationships & break-ups and the adrenaline rush at prime Teen-Age is far more stronger than any educational information that is provided in any form.

Drugs and Alcohol Abuse

What am I supposed to do as a parent?

Sometimes people that we love make choices we wish they didn’t. It is tough to get them off drugs or alcohol. Your child must make that decision for themselves. Many young people try drugs and drinking in their teenage years. For many this may not become a serious problem. But unfortunately for some it does. When a child is found to be a victim of drug abuse, naturally the parents want to be tough to ensure that they out an immediate end to the problem. Instead, try to agree on the right approach with your child. Drug and alcohol problems take a long time to fix. Patience & perseverance along with professional help may be the ideal winning combination to deal with this situation.

Final Thoughts

Unfortunately, many issues that children face today are multifarious & interrelated causing a snow-ball effect. It is shocking that even in strong family circles, teenagers may struggle to cope up with issues problems like unsafe sex, alcohol, drug abuse, bullying or relationships issues. There is no way to be a perfect parent. But you can be a great one! The values you inculcate in the formative years of your child, stay with them forever & will be their guiding light throughout their lives.

Koco Kids – Best Playschool / Preschool in SantaCruz, Mumbai

“All the FLOWERS of tomorrow are in the SEEDS of today! These SEEDS instill the power of imagination, the joy of discovering & the importance of learning.” – Read the invitation I received last week. Sounds fancy but very thoughtful, I said to myself. The invitation was for the launch of Koco Kids – Best Playschool / Preschool in SantaCruz, Mumbai.

As a parent I was delighted to check-out the latest pre-school in the neighborhood & hoping to have a wonderful day at Koco Kids with my little one. Afterall, the most important phase of your life is not your board exams but the elementary stage of your life spanning 0-5years. Because about 90% of the brain develops before the age of 5. So, I decided to take my little one to Koco Kids.

Read on the other Best Preschools/Playschools in Mumbai here.

A wonderful day at Koco Kids

A pre-school should be focused on providing a loving and enriching atmosphere to help your children achieve their maximum potential. It is important to allow each child to be his or her unique self and to respect that they grow at their own pace. One must allow the body and mind to grow as nature intended. The ethos should embrace the outdoors to stimulate the senses & creativity in children.

As a parent we have many priorities in our check list in an order that varies for every parent depending on the socio-economic & education background. Most of them include –
*Safe & Non-toxic environment
*Amenities
*Cleanliness & Hygiene
*Security & CCTV
*Timings & Flexibility
*Proximity from home
*Staff support
*Quality learning & accredations
*Teaching Methodology
*Standard of Education
*Teacher to student ratio
*Activities & Events held at the premises

Our experience at Koco Kids – Best Playschool / Preschool in SantaCruz, Mumbai
Our experience at Koco Kids was like a “Baby’s Day Out”. Combined massive indoor & outdoor play area along with colourful & premium furnishings was like a little paradise for my daughter where she could climb, jump swing and run under one roof. With so many activities and amenities, making new friends, she wouldn’t cease to play around & laugh! The unmatched delight on her face was over-whelming!

A wonderful day at Koco Kids

Koco Kids offers non-stop OUTDOOR entertainment by offering an array of interesting things to channelize your child’s energy. And my hyper-active child has imprudent vivacity to bask every bit of the activity that was on her plate.

  • A sand table, a water table, a tree house, a gardening pit, swings & kinetic sand – you name it & you have it.
  • Playing outdoors allows natural progression and inculcates a sense of discovery and curiosity. What my daughter enjoyed the best was the hammock – after exploring every bit of the space, she was exhausted, finally. She peacefully relaxed on the hammock & listened to the birds chirping in the unhurried atmosphere. Wish our life was as relaxed as our kids!
  • The INDOOR play area was equally enriching and interesting. It is filled with elements for physical development and fun like the trampoline, ball pool and a zip line.
  • Considering the safety of kids, all edges are rounded and sharp surfaces are foam padded and doors have child-locks to maintain safety.

What I thought was the most unique feature of this playschool was that they were very organized. The interiors of all the 5 classrooms had been aesthetically designed to encourage dynamic behavior of kids & to focus on their psychology.

  • The 1st was called “TOYLAND” – where they had all the Montessori apparatus & toys which help develop fine motor skills.
  • The 2nd was called “RAINBOW” – that focusses on the ‘see’ skill like art, craft & reading.
  • The 3rd was the “LA LA LAND” – the obvious guess is music, singing, dance & drama to enhance creativity & physical activity.
  • The 4th was the “GYM” – Yes! Children need a gym to boost physical fitness & hone large motor skills to fight the unhealthy food & habits of modern day lifestyle.
  • The 5th one called “THE ENCHANTED WOODS” – that is a beautiful outdoor haven surrounded by lush green trees to weave a million imaginary stories. While my daughter was having a great time, I hopped into the cafeteria to grab a cup of coffee & small bite.

While I loved watching my daughter enjoy with her new friends, I also made a few of my own. During my conversation with one of the support staff, I learnt that, Shri Balaji International School Trust (SBIS) (ICSE), Malad has established this preschool after excelling 15years in the education sector. It is headed by a veteran educator, an expert in child psychology, with 40 years of experience with some of the most prestigious schools in the industry. The trust has upheld its long-standing principle of strengthening and encouraging childhood development on an emotional, intellectual, social and physical level.

It is laid with the objective of giving their free minds a pathway to ensure their progressive personal development. They strive to carve a niche by employing traditional as well as modern-day methodologies which are designed to offer pristine value to the holistic development.

A wonderful day at Koco Kids

Just as one could expect, time flew! But, my little angel had no intentions to leave her new found love. Typically, that’s what kids do when they are taken to Fun City/Play Area or any kids centric activity centre that keeps them entertained. They always want more. We had a fantastic time. After all, we are happy when our children are happy. Isn’t it? 🙂

THE WATER BORNS – New Age Babies

This blog is about the water tub delivery, well known as the “Water Birth”. This is the process of giving birth in the tub of warm water. It may interest you to know that Indians have an ancient history of this delivery method! In this method, a woman can stay in the water tub throughout her labour and get out for delivery or stay in the water for the delivery as well. Let’s delve into the the concept of The Water Borns – New Age Babies.

THEORY: The theory behind the water birth is, the baby has been in the amniotic sac for a long period in your womb, birthing in the similar environment and is hence gentler for the baby. It is also less stressful and relaxing for the mother.

Reducing the stress during labour and delivery reduces the fetal complications. Water birth should always occur under the supervision of the qualified health care provider.

The Water Borns - New Age Babies

BENEFITS OF WATER BIRTH?

  1. The warm water has a relaxing effect, which balances the blood pressure of the mother.
  2. As the labouring woman relaxes physically, she is also able to relax mentally with greater ability to focus on the birthing process.
  3. Science of Buoyancy promotes more coherent uterine contractions and enhanced blood circulation which promotes better oxygenation of the uterine muscles, resulting in less labour pain for the mother.
  4. Body weight of a person is lowered when in water. This gives the mother free movement, flexibility and positioning.
  5. The mother’s body produces “endorphins” which act as pain-inhibitors.
  6. Laboring in water may help your body lower the release of the stress hormone called ‘adrenaline’ and more of ‘oxytocin’ which stimulates your labor contractions to be strong and regular.
  7. It may be quicker and easier to push your baby in the water. The sides of the pool can be used for extra support.

WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR THE BABY BEING BORN IN WATER?

  1. The transition to the outside world may be more peaceful for babies who are born in water.
  2. Studies say, babies born in water may be more alert, focused and quieter than babies born in air.
  3. It eases the stress of birth thus increasing reassurance and sense of security.

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS NOT IDEAL FOR WATER BIRTH AND NEED STRICT MEDICAL INSTRUCTIONS?

  1. If mother is diagnosed with herpes( a viral infection that affects the skin(causing blisters) or the nervous system).
  2. If preterm labor is expected.
  3. If diagnosed with excessive bleeding or any maternal infection that can pass through the birth canal(perinatal) like Hepatitis, HIV or Syphilis.
  4. If the baby is a Breech (if the baby’s legs or buttocks are to be delivered first. Typically it happens in 1 out of 25 births)
  5. If you are expecting multiples(twins/triplets/quadruplets)
  6. If there is a severe meconium(the dark green substance forming the first feces of a newborn infant).

The Water Borns - New Age Babies

 MYTHS AND REALITY

    1. The water tub and whirlpools could be dangerous during pregnancy.

Reality: The risk involved is only the temperature of the water tub. If the water is too hot, dehydration and overheating become risks to you and the baby. You should try to stay well hydrated and make sure the temperature of water stays at 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally birthing pools are specifically designed to prevent this problem.

  1. It brings potential risk to both the mother and the baby.

Reality:  There might be a theoretical risk of water aspiration & water embolism, which occurs when water enters the mother’s blood stream.

If the baby is experiencing stress in the birth canal or if the umbilical cord twists around the neck, the baby might gasp for air with the possibility of inhaling water.

Though, this would be a rare occurrence because babies do not normally inhale until they are exposed to air. They continue to receive oxygen through the umbilical cord until they start to breathe on their own or until the cord is cut. The final potential risk is that the umbilical cord could snap as the baby is brought to the surface of the water. This can be prevented by using caution when lifting the baby up to the mother’s chest.

Conclusion:

The water birth is a natural and most relaxing delivery method. Water tub deliver is gaining popularity in India as it is an alternative to painful traditional normal delivery methods. The steady rise in inquiries for undertaking such births will only increase with time. This is because there is no or minimal medical intervention and the mother gives birth in zero gravity. To create a soothing and stress-free environment for the baby is the duty of every mother. Why don’t you start your duty from the delivery itself?
