Our kids dealing with common cold and cough happens quite often. There are certain conventional and tested methods like steam inhalation, nebulization (to relieve chest congestion), taking supplements, gargling salt water, hot water bath and many more which work well for adults, but could be inapplicable or sometimes uncomfortable, for babies. Mother Nature has in it’s bounty a wonder seed called Ajwain or carom seed. Colloquially called Omam, this common Indian spice doubles up as remedy for cold. Let us discover how useful is this Ajwain For Cold And Cough In Babies.
What makes Ajwain so
powerful and wonderful?
Ajwain seeds contain minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants and fiber.
Thymol in ajwain seeds is loaded with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties which aid in relieving cough and cold related congestion.
The seeds are known to cure digestive and respiratory problems.
It also helps to relieve babies from chronic colic and constipation problems.
It’s major component ‘thymol’ makes it even more potent as a fungicide and a pesticide, thus preventing the development of undesired pathogens.
It could also treat gastric problems in babies.
It is known to release gastric acid which can enhance appetite and facilitate smooth digestion in kids.
Ajwain could be introduced as early as 8 months of age. However, care should be taken to introduce it in small quantities. For babies, the best way to introduce it in foods is by adding it in plain water. Gradually you could use the powdered version of it and add it in the preparations- parathas, puris, pulao could be the best options for your babies.
Now you know why Ajwain is a wonder seed. But how and where do we incorporate it to enjoy its benefits? Mentioning those particular ways to use Ajwain For Cold And Cough In Babies below:
Ajwain infused water
Simple as it may sound, this option has been in practice for ages. In half a litre of water add 1tsp of carom seeds, or ajwain. Boil the water for 10-15 minutes. Let it cool down and store it in a bottle. The recommended dosage is 2-3 tsp twice a day. And the recommended age limit is 6months and above.
An age old remedy
which is still religiously followed even today; this is a simple method to
combat cold and cough in babies.
Ingredients:
Ajwain – 1 teaspoon
Tulsi leaves – 10-12
Dry ginger powder –
½ teaspoon (optional)
Clove – 1
Fennel seeds- ¼ tsp
Black pepper – 4
Turmeric – ½ tsp
Jaggery – 1/3 cup
Water – ½ cup
Method:
Mix all the ingredients in a heavy bottomed pan and boil for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid and let it cool and then give it to your little one. You could add a natural sweetener like honey (1tsp) to the liquid after it cools down. The recommended dosage would be 1tsp – 1.5 tsp thrice a day for 3 days. However care should be taken to not mix it with the allopathy medicines to avoid any undesirable effect.
One of the most effective and easiest method is Ajwain potli. Take two spoonfuls of ajwain and heat it in a pan for a few minutes, until a strong pungent fragrance starts to emanate from it. remove the ajwain from the pan and place it on a clean cloth and tie it like a potli. Just like how we use a heat pad, similarly this potli could be used to massage gently on the chest of the baby to relieve congestion and nose blocks. The only thing to take care of is that the potli should be just warm enough to deliver the desired effect.
Garlic is potent as an anti-bacterial food which helps in cure common cough and cold in babies as well as digestive disorders. The preparation part is similar to the previous one. Roast 2-3 peeled garlic cloves and 1 tsp of ajwain seeds until the garlicky smell emanates from it. Allow it to cool for a few minutes. Make a potli of the ingredients and place it on the bedside of your child’s cot, or below the pillow, or on the one end of the room. The fragrance of garlic will have the desired effect on your baby, and she will feel relieved of congestion in no time. Do not take it directly close to your baby, as the strong fumes of the garlic could be suffocating or too strong for your baby.
Garlic-based remedial oil
Garlic could also be incorporated into the preparation of a simple, yet effective home-made oil which helps in relieving congestion in babies. The 2-step method of preparation makes it a total hassle-free and a convenient option for mommies. Take 2-3 peeled cloves of garlic and roast it on the pan until they char. Mix it with oil and mash it. The oil is ready for use. You are at a liberty to choose any of the mentioned oils: sesame oil, cooking oil, mustard oil, olive oil or coconut oil. The method of application is also simple. Apply 4-5 drops of oil on the baby’s chest and neck and gently massage. Leave it for a few minutes. And the effect of the oil would start within 20-30 minutes making it one of the most effective remedies using Ajwain For Cold And Cough In Babies.
A combination of
mustard oil and ajwain seeds could be the answer to your quest for a quick home
remedy to treat/prevent cold and cough in babies. This is how you could do it:
Take mustard oil in a pan and add 3-4 tsp of ajwain, or carom seeds in it
Let it heat until the fumes appear.
Turn off and let it cool. Store it in a jar.
Massage your baby on the chest, neck and back area with this oil.
However, this method is effective only on babies of upto 8-10 months of age. To make it more effective you could also add 4-5 cloves as it makes it more stronger in it’s compositon.
Ajwain infused jaggery powder
A mixture of ajwain
and jaggery water helps in relieving nose block and helps in providing relief
from cough thus allowing your baby to have reasonably good night’s sleep.
However, it is important
to note that this powdered mixture should be given to babies of only 1 year and
above. For smaller babies, ajwain infused jaggery water is a safer option.
A mixture consisting of equal amounts of
jaggery along with powdered dry and roasted ajwain could be stored in an
air-tight container. 1tsp of this mixture (mixed with honey or ghee) could be
given twice a day to your baby for a steady and quick relief from congestion.
For older kids you could also give 2tsp of the same mixture.
Ajwain soup for cold & cough
Hot soups loaded with vegetables are one of the best ways to soothe a cold and a nose block. Hence you could dry roast ajwain and powder it before mixing the same to the soup. Add a small pinch of it to the soup before you serve it to your baby. The twin benefits of ajwain and soup could work very well for your baby.

Read on to know everything about Health Benefits Of Olive Oil For Baby Massage.
Olive oil is obtained either by pressing or processing the olives, whether it for cooking or for baby massage. How oil is being tapped from the olives is what decides the richness and variety of the oil. There are three such varieties- extra virgin olive oil, virgin olive oil and regular olive oil.
Virgin Olive Oil
It is extracted from olive fruit by means of cold pressing. The means of extraction is completely mechanical with no involvement of chemicals at any stage.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil(EVOO)
Health Benefits Of Olive Oil For Baby Massage has best results when you use extra virgin olive oil. It is the richest and purest form of virgin olive oil, obtained from the first cold press of olives. The ground olive paste is pressed without involving any heat/processing, filtered and the oil extracted is then bottled directly.
Regular Olive Oil
Also called as refined olive oil or pure olive oil or simply olive oil. It is obtained from virgin oils after processing/ refining them to increase their shelf life before bottling. It is treated with additives, which are sometimes other oils and preservatives.
Remembering
to not make olive oil massages a regular thing for our babies, any of the three
varieties can be used for massages. However, always choose EVOO for baby
massages as it has a better balance of fatty acids and antioxidants. It is the
safest and undoubtedly the best variety and every baby deserves the best!
Health Benefits Of Olive Oil For Baby Massage
Before
we get the fruit, it is important to sow the seeds right. Right? So before we learn
the benefits of olive oil, we should know how to prep it before application on
our babies. Equal quantities of olive oil and lukewarm water are to be taken in
a jar and mixed thoroughly. This can then be used to massage the baby. From
here on in this segment, massage oil refers to this mixture. You may already be
pondering over why water. That’s because water controls how much the skin
permeates and helps retaining more moisture without drying out the skin too
much. Lone use of olive oil on the other hand, opens out the pores too much and
completely seeps into the skin.
With that known, lets head to the health benefits of olive oil massages for babies.
Olive oil as an all weather moisturizer
Olive oil has no restrictions with respect to the season of use. It can be used all through the year which makes it an easy option to choose. Massaging the baby with the massage oil makes the skin supple soft, healthy and adds a dash of lustre. Moreover, it also regenerates the skin by removing dead skin cells making way for new skin cells and hence healthier skin.
Olive oil as a relief from constipation
Rubbing warm massage oil on the baby’s stomach gently, in clockwise, circular motion eases constipation and also prevents gas formation. It should be kept in mind to not adopt this massage right after feeding the baby as obviously, he/she is going to vomit!
Olive oil as a cure for cradle cap
Cradle cap is a dandruff like formation of dry, flaky layers of skin on the baby’s scalp. It is a harmless skin condition in babies which can be eliminated, thanks to olive oil! Take the required amount of massage oil, apply it on the baby’s scalp with a little massaging and leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes. In case of a thick crust, the oil can be left overnight, before washing it off with lukewarm water and mild baby shampoo followed by gently combing off the loosened flakes.
Olive oil to avoid/ prevent diaper rashes
Massaging the baby’s diaper area(genitals and buttocks) with a little amount of the massage oil scares away all the diaper rashes and prevents them from appearing again.
Olive oil for baby hair
One of the key Health Benefits Of Olive Oil For Baby Massage is that it nourishes & improves hair texture. A good source of vitamin E, olive oil is great for healthy hair. Massaging the baby’s scalp with the massage oil strengthens their hair. It also softens rough or coarse hair.
Olive oil to promote sleep
If you ever find trouble putting your little one to sleep, massage his soles with a teeny bit of the massage oil. The relaxing properties of the oil combined with the great massages you deliver will sure help in putting him to sleep.
Olive oil to maintain skin tone
The skin regenerative properties of olive oil helps in maintaining the skin tone of the baby if not improve it. However, do not go overboard with the massaging and make it a regular practice.
Olive oil for nail health
Massaging the nails and cuticles with the massage oil makes them shinier apart from strengthening them.
Olive oil for weight gain in premature babies
This essential massage oil helps with lipid absorption through the skin. Research has said that olive oil combined with soy oil has a lipid profile similar to that of breast milk. After consulting your pediatrician and getting to know if it is safe, this massage can be adopted to increase the weight of preterm babies.
Four teaspoons of warm massage oil with 2-3 drops of essential oils(eucalyptus, rosemary or peppermint) rubbed gently over the chest and back of the child in the nights relieves them from cough in a few days and promotes their sleep.
Though the composition of
olive oil varies based on several factors like the time of harvest, method of
extraction, etc., it is mainly composed of fatty acids, predominated by oleic
fatty acids followed far behind by linoleic and palmitic acids.
Though it is largely safe
to use olive oils for baby massages, it is out of option to use it for babies
suffering eczema or having dry skin. Oleic acid has a natural tendency of
enhancing the permeability of skin and opens out the pores. On using olive oil
for dry skinned babies will hence dry out their skin further, which is not
good. Futhermore, oleic acid is also known to aggravate eczema and break down
the natural, protective barriers of skin.
For such babies, the
massage oil can be substituted with other options like jojoba oil or virgin
coconut oil(whichever suits them) and olive oil can be included in their diet
for enjoying its benefits. However, olive oil inclusion is only suggested for
babies older than six months. You should consult your pediatrician and make a
call on that.

In today’s fast
paced world, Stress the new
buzz word is doing the rounds. Stress, Stress and more Stress!
We don’t realize that today’s generation is walking the tight rope where it
takes a toll to keep the balance. On one hand, we want them to score A+ in all
the subjects and on the other hand we want them to be a part of all
competitions. In the process, we are getting them into the rat race much
earlier than they are capable of handling it. We intend to convey this
message with the help of a simple happening which is common in today’s
households.
Stress is often defined as a bodily response to the demands of life. But there are also emotional and mental aspects of stress. It is experienced as thoughts and feelings as well as in the body. Another way to define stress could be as an internal and conditioned response to external pressures.
Children and teens
may seem to grow up fast. They build social skills and emotional
intelligence as they grow. This process can be joyful. We often celebrate
milestones as children grow. But this process can also cause mental health
issues. Kids and teens may develop issues with behaviour, separation, substance
abuse, or something else.
Children and teens
can develop a broad range of mental health issues, and up to 50% of these may
develop before age 14. In addition, issues with school, friendship and
bullying, the birth of new siblings, and divorce may impact children in
life-altering ways that can also affect mental health. Below are some concerns
which children and adolescents commonly experience.
Learning about children’s mental health issues can increase one’s knowledge of how to help. Parents can support children and teens as their brains develop. Medication, therapy, or a combination of both can be effective. A counselling/ therapy session may also benefit children or teens. Therapy can be a safe space for children to process thoughts and emotions. Therapy can help address mental health issues. It can allow them to process issues surrounding growing up, school, or friends.
Career development
is a lifelong process and there are several factors that influence career
options in students. These factors include interests of a student, personality,
values, background, abilities and circumstances. Career counselling comes into
the picture and helps students to make an informed choice and also allow them
to better understand themselves. Career counselling can also be pursued as a
profession. There are a number of career counselling jobs in the market.
Counselling lets students understand the world of work better and the process is important for them to make decisions regarding education, career and life. They can focus more and concentrate more on making better career decisions. Counselling helps them to clear their mind and they can make decisions not only at the moment but they will get enough knowledge and skills with the help of which they can make future and life decisions. There are numerous ways in which one can become a therapist.
Therapist jobs are overwhelming. When people develop a career in therapy they have the ability to help teens focus on the career path. Students who are not able to make advantageous decisions for their career will be able to choose a career more easily. Family therapies are also beneficial where teens and parents can together get insights on what is better for their child. Therapist helps people to maintain healthy family relations as well. Even online counselling and therapy such as BetterHelp are available where therapy sessions can be opted for from the comfort of your home.
It’s 2020. A new year, and for many, a new decade. It’s a fresh start, and if you have kids, you should think about ways to reinvent your style of parenting. Parenting is a process of evolution, with many parents changing how they behave or discipline their kids. From learning to feed the baby healthier foods such as mushrooms, to thinking about the best hair growth for baby, we want what’s best. Here are some ways telling you How to Have a Happy, Healthy Relationship With Your Child in 2020.
Seeking Help
Family and parental counseling has a stigma. Some parents may imagine it as something for parents who have lost control of their child. However, there is much more to it than that. Instead of thinking about it this way, consider thinking of it as a way to fine-tune your parenting style and looking for any flaws in it before it gets too troublesome. Seeking the help of a family counselor, therapist, or psychologist is a smart move. Thanks to online therapy, you don’t even have to leave the house, either.
Limit Time on the Screen
Technology is important in today’s society, but too many
kids live on their tablets or other devices. Too much can lead to issues, such
as having trouble sleeping. Kids need
more time with their parents, and limiting screen time is something you should
consider.
Limit
Rewarding for Good Behavior
Parenting should involve positivity and positive
reinforcement, but to many parents, it’s like a bargaining chip. You may buy
your child a new toy if they behave good, but that just means you’ll have to
buy another for future good behavior. Not only is this a financial burden, but
your kid may expect way too much out of you, and may become entitled. Don’t
depend too much on rewards as a reason to curb any bad behaviors. It’s okay to
give your child an occasional present, but don’t rely on it.
Discipline,
Don’t Punish
Too many parents think about the punishment for their
child’s bad behavior, such as grounding or a time-out. However, not enough
think about the learning experience. By giving your child an undesirable
consequence, you are giving them a reason not to do it again, but you aren’t
teaching them why they shouldn’t do it. Give them reasons. Not “because I said
so,” but instead, tell them why they should share their toys and not hit their
sister.
Don’t Lose
Your Temper
Does your child seem angry and aggressive? Look at yourself before you judge them. You live a stressed life, and often, you may find yourself getting irritated or even shouting when your child does something you don’t want. The last thing you want to do is to set a bad example. If you do end up losing your temper, explain to your child that this is the wrong thing to do, and that even parents mess up every once in a while. This sure is an important pointer on How to Have a Happy, Healthy Relationship With Your Child.
Eat With Them
In today’s busy world, too many parents are ordering take-out
and not fixing food at home. However, there are many kitchen appliances to make
cooking much less of a challenge. For example, you may be able to purchase a
slow cooker or an Instant pot and cook foods beforehand. Not only are you
cooking more nutritious meals for your child, but by having a dinner night, you
are improving your family bonds by quite a bit.
Be
Consistent, But Evolve
One thing you should never do with parenting is to be too
inconsistent. If one child is disciplined, the child’s sibling should be
disciplined for the same behavior. Rules should not depend on your mood.
With that said, don’t be afraid to evolve. As your child
grows, and so do you, don’t be afraid to relax a little bit and let them
discover the world for themselves. A parenting mindset that never changes is a
bit of a problem in a world where everything changes at a faster rate. You may
be a grown-up, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t grown up. Everyone has growing
to do, and you can thrive with your child in 2020.

It is often anticipated wrongly that a new born may sound like they have a stuffy nose because in the womb they were always surrounded by fluids, but the certitude here is that stuffy nose or nasal congestion in babies happens when the tissues inside the nose swell or produce mucus. What ever the reason is, the discomfort it brings to your baby is enough to keep both of you awake all night. So, how to relieve nasal congestion & stuffy nose in babies quickly? Cold or cough often occurs due to change in weather, contact with infected person or consumption of certain foods that did not go well with your body.
What Causes Stuffy Nose In Babies?

Types
of Repellents and effectiveness
You must have noticed that we
have listed both sprays and patches in our list of the best mosquito
repellents. The concept of patches is a relatively new one so if you are
wondering about its effectiveness, we can say that they have been tested for
their effectiveness with good results. Therefore, if you find sprays and gels a
bit messy and not right for your skin you can always use a patch.
Mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon-di-oxide exhaled by us. A patch can mask that effectively so that the
mosquitoes are unable to detect us. A patch also has the advantage of
flexibility of application as it can be put pasted on our clothes as well.
These patches are also suitable for individual application without affecting
anyone else in the surroundings, making them a more convenient solution to get
rid of mosquitoes.
Sprays are also effective in their repelling
abilities and can be used to ward off mosquitoes from an entire room. These
repellents are available in natural forms free of any chemicals and making it a
good option for babies as well. Both
these types of repellents are good for indoor and outdoor applications but
experts recommend using a DEET or picaridin based chemical repellent as per
guidelines, when you are visiting an area prone to mosquito borne diseases.

against any allergies that you may have against any natural product. Therefore,
it is best to consult an essential oil specialist if you plan to apply them

solution can provide protection against ninety percent of mosquitoes. Even
burning a few thyme leaves can offer protection for more than a hour.

mosquito repellent. It can also be grown indoors and the smell of the leaves
